This painting is a part of a series called Woodprint Fingergrain. This word play speaks to the parallel between tree-rings and fingerprints, and to the uniqueness of the individual as nature intended. My inspiration is the woodgrain of the wood-panel I paint on. I follow the grain, enhancing the shapes and movement within the wood. These flowing shapes often remind me of other aspects of nature.MOUNTAIN MOOD

12"x48"
acrylic on wood
Living on Vancouver Island, the ocean surrounds us and I feel blessed to live in such a beautiful corner of the world. The ferries are part of our transportation system here and I was lucky enough to work on one of the small ferries travelling amongst the gulf islands. I am not a morning person, but the morning shift was my favourite because I would see these amazing sunrises over the ocean day after day.

This painting makes me think of a flowing river. In the Cowichan Valley, where I live, the Koksilah River runs through, and I often take my dogs for a walk in the parks that greet it. In the winter I like to watch the rushing water and in the summer I enjoy going for a dip.

This painting makes me think of the moon; the greys of the cool and distant sphere in the sky, watching over us. As the light moves across the artwork the painting appears to change. The copper shimmers giving a warm feeling to the cool moon. I take comfort in the moon, and I like the way this painting reminds me of my friend in the sky.

24" x 24"
acrylic on wood
The dramatic shapes in this abstract painting remind me of mountains. I chose colours that represent the way the landscape changes, as the mountain rises from the forest to the sky. The use of silver reflects strength. It makes me think of peaks and valleys. Power and surrender.
